Season 1 Spoilers
Arcane Season two is almost upon us, and if you’re like me you’re focused entirely on what this new season will bring to the table. Netflix’s original series Arcane: League of Legends broke records with its stunning animation, compelling storytelling, and vibrant voice acting. The story follows the sisters Vi and Jinx through their tumultuous relationship as the undercity grows frustrated and tensions grow between them and the blooming metropolis of Piltover. Throughout the season Vi meets Caitlyn, an enforcer from the much wealthier ‘topside’ of the city and we watch the pair grow closer together as they try and stop the beginnings of what will soon be an all out war.
Season one left us with the explosion of the high council by Jinx’s hands. Vi and Caitlyn’s relationship suffered as Vi refused to let what was left of Powder go and the undercity began to rise up against Piltover- fortified by new arcane technology. Now we have glimpses of what season two will have in store for us.
The official trailer begins with Vi telling Caitlyn that her sister is gone. We get a shot of Vi wearing what looks to be enforcer clothing and her original character design’s goggles, while Caitlyn stands in a white beret and uniform. We see shots of explosions with Jinx’s laughter in the background and Vi and Caitlyn coming to the conclusion that they need to bring Jinx down. We then see an emotional shot of Vi hitting her punching bag and crying next to a shot of what seems to be arcane powered metal fists Vi is wearing.
Shot by shot we see that Piltover is at war with the undercity who are rallying behind Jinx, and Vi is shot in duality as this pillar of justice — in uniform, neat, and side by side with Caitlyn, or as an emotional wreck — wearing black, with face paint, in what appears to be a fighting ring, crying and screaming. We get a second trailer that showcases the disarray Vi is starting the season in. Fighting in a fight ring over and over beating opponent after opponent and imagining Catlyn and Jinx. Vi is drunk, alone, and fighting. We can only imagine what she will be put through in this next season as Jinx plans to burn the city to the ground and Caitlyn plans to kill Jinx.
We also see a sequence of quick images, one a small blue haired girl surrounded by red, next Ekko shooting an arcane powered bullet, then Caitlyn being choked by a shimmer powered arm, a wrist with an arcane crystal embedded in it, and a shadowy figure resembling Silko. Then Vi facing an impossibly large foe, Heimerdinger using arcane tech, and finally Vi next to a blue explosion. These images foreshadow what will happen in the upcoming battle between Jinx and Vi, the war between Topsiders and the undercity, and the chaos that is going to encompass season two. I eagerly await the release of part one on November 9th. Season two part two will be released November 16th and part three the 23rd. The season promises to be filled with action, arcane, and anarchy and the emotion to be touchable. Keep your calendars open this November to watch the final season of Netflix’s Arcane.
